1890s 4 drawer antique dresser with "overhang"

I purchased this dresser in South Texas about a month ago. It was in pretty rough shape and desperately needed to be stabilized so I took it in to have it rebuilt.

The woman at the furniture restoration place told me she believed it was from the 1890s and that all the hardware was original. There are no identifications on the piece.

I'm not sure what kind of wood it is but if anyone could help point me in the right direction for more information on it... I am not planning to sell the piece, but would like to learn more about it before I start restoring it.
