- Icicle inlay: Inlay in the form of a tapering pendant seen on some Federal style objects.
- Incising: Shallow indentation into surface; not carved deeply.
- Inlay: A technique similar to that used to form a mosaic. In most cases, differently colored woods are set into a recessed, carved section of an object to form a decorative pattern or motif. Other materials such as ivory and metal are also used. Used from mid-sixteenth century onwards.
