Antique Desk with a secret compartment. Please help..

I received this Desk as a gift from a friend who bought this at a auction (auction price 6000$)he was told by the auctioneer that it has a secret compartment,thus making me think its old.

it would be greatly appreciated if you could please tell me what type of desk it is.
