Oak wing back recliner. NEW
by: chris

I recently purchased a solid oak wing back recliner at a thrift store. Under the chair, there is a paper label that reads "The Lippert Furniture Co. Ltd. Berlin, Ontario". There are patent dates of Sept 12, 1905 and Oct 15, 1907. It also reads, owners of patent rights for Canada, and Luxury Patent KD furniture. There is also information about the furniture number and assembler name, and references to leather upholstry, which has since been replaced by cloth.
I am wondering if furniture from this company during the period of "Berlin, Ont." is in demand at all or has any value. I paid $10 for the chair, and would like to get it recovered in leather. Any information would be appreciated, since I have not been able to find any information on any style of chair like this from this company or otherwise. Thanks.

Walnut Occasional Table
by: Anonymous

I have inherited an interesting walnut "occasional" table with a lower tier from my mother. The table is oval with carvings around the outside edges and intricate legs. The tag on the underside reads "George J. Lippert Kitchener Ontario Number 684". We are assuming that the table might have been acquired by my maternal grandfather, who was born in Ontario. Any information about it would be helpful.
With appreciation, Margaret

Lippert furniture factory in Berlin Ontario
by: Maggie Lippert

I have noticed there are a lot of people with Lippert furniture who have little or no information about the company. It was started in Berlin, Ontario (now Kitchener) in 1899 and went out of business in the 1950's) My great grandfather built it and every one of my uncles and my father worked in the factory at one time or another. My father tells me a lot of stories about it and apparently it was closed when hand crafted furniture went out of style and everything start to be made on an assembly line. I have had some difficulty finding information on some of the later pieces but the earlier pieces from the turn of the century are pretty valuable.
The Waterloo Historical society has lots of photos of the factory. I will let you know if I find more info on the values of the pieces you have.

lippert furniture

I am the granddaughter of Ida Lippert. I have 2 chairs and I know where other original pieces are. The dining table chairs buffet trunk and baby cradle. I have found this very interesting as I thought that there might be an interest in some of this furniture. One chair i have is a spindle arm chair. It is very unique and detailed. The other is a Victorian style carved wood with a cupid and claw footed. It still has the original upholster fabric on the seat and back in sculptured rich brown fabric. I do also have the drawings of some of furniture as my grandfather was a designer and artist with Lippert furniture.

Lippert shelf
by: Sylvia Wood

My husband and I are liquidating our Aunt's estate. She has a corner shelf with 5 shelves, 17" at the bottom, with each shelf smaller as it goes up. It is 50" tall. The back has the label "George Lippert Limited, Kitchener Ontario". I believe it is walnut, needs some repair on one side. If anyone is interested in this piece, email and I will send a photo.

George J. Lippert ....
by: Anonymous

... was my great-grandfather. He founded the company on Michael Street in Kitchener (formerly Berlin) early in the century. Early in their history they also made caskets and operated what was then the Lippert-Gruhn Funeral Home on Queen St (at Joseph)

Eventually the plan would employ as many as 75 craftsmen, many German carvers and they became known for very high quality hard woods and grandfather clocks (the one in the lobby of the Ratz-Bechtel funeral home is a Lippert)

George had one son - Elroy, who in turn only had one child: Robert (Bob),

Ultimately the company failed to recognize and respond to consumer trends. As popular taste turned to mass-produced, bond, clean designs - the company continued to manufacture heavier, darker 'old-world' furniture.

They would go out of business in the 50's. Because the company's production was limited (even compared to some of he other local manufacturers like Krug) there is a small, but passionate interest in furniture today, particularly the clocks.

2 Single Beds
by: Dave

I have 2 single beds with the same cardboard tags of Geo. J Lippert Ltd. Michael Street. Kitchener. These are matching beds with matching head and footboards. They have turned spindles that taper to a point on the four corners of the bed frame. Any idea what these may be worth?
Thanks

Lippert Furniture
by: Marilyn Parkinson - Crump

I have an oak pedestal table that my grandmother had in her dining room for all of her married life. It is 46 inches across without the leaves of which there are 3 each around 20 inches in width so it makes a very large table. The cardboard tag which was attached to the bottom says George J. Lippert Table Co., Berlin Ontario. This dates the table to no later that 1916 since Berlin became Kitchener then. My friend who is a wood expert says that it is solid, quarter-round oak. I would love some more information about this piece and the Lippert furniture company.

Secretary
by: John K

My mother had, and I now have a secretary in dark finish which has a label "George J Lippert, Kitchener, Ontario, No 931, Solid Walnut Top. I was informed that the pinapple motif carved into the top was a desireable feature. The finish is original but it getting cracked. It has been out west (Calgary) for more than 50 years. If anyone has any information about the age and value, I would be interested.

Also have a George Lippert
by: RR from Michigan

I do not have any information to offer but that I also have George Lippert furniture. Ours is a craftsman oak dining room set (table with leaves, 6 chairs and a sideboard). The tag on the table said George Lippert, but some time ago was torn off by one of my children so I don't know any more. I have been told that the set was given to my great-grandparents as a wedding gift from their parents. They lived in Hamilton, Ontario, and I do have some old photographs of the set from my grandparents' wedding in 1935, and one I think that was earlier than that. They must have felt it was valuable at the time to have photographed it. I am also interested in any information.Thanks.

Lippert Furniture
by: Veronica

Yes, if there is a way to email a picture of the label, my dad could probably help decifer it, his dad owned Lippert furniture in Kitchener, and he worked there. I'm looking for pieces of any Lippert furniture, I believe it is from the 1920's - 30's but not sure.
Thanks,
