Gregory Furniture Mfg Co, Tacoma, WA

by Elizabeth
(Wyoming)

Is anyone familiar with this company? All I've been able to find out on the Internet is that it was in business from circa 1916 and 1940. In 1940, they became Gregory and Butler until 1945, then became FS Harmon from 1947, into the 50's.

If anyone has any other info, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

1950 Triple Dresser Value
by: Anonymous

I have a triple dresser and head board that my parents purchased in 1950 in Seattle, WA. It says Harmon Manufacturing Co. on the metal sticker in the drawer. I inherited these 2 pieces from my parents when they passed. I am now wondering about the value of these two pieces. Looks like walnut with a light blond finish. If anyone has an idea of the value of these pieces, I would appreciate hearing from you. I am now located in North Carolina. sandy@bnokes.com

Dining Room Furniture
by: Donna

I too have a Gregory Furniture Mfg. Co. hutch, dining room table with four additional leaves and six chairs. I'm fairly certain its' approximately 100 years old and has been in my family forever. Was going to give it to another family member but I think I'll hang onto it. Would be great to learn of a value.

F.S. Harmon vanity
by: Vicki

I have a vanity with 3 drawers on each side & a large round mirror in the middle. It was my Mom's & my sister refinished it, she did a beautiful job. Someone had painted it! Just wondered when it was made. It has a metal plate in a drawer with F.S. Harmon Mfg. Co. Tacoma Wash. I also found a sticker in the drawer, I'm only guessing it was with this piece of furniture. It says; This is a genuine Scheibe product, fine quality accessories since 1914. I would appreciate any information you could give me. Thank You.

appraisals
by: Anonymous

I have a dining room set made by this furniture company which I just had appraised by two online appraisal companies. One is WhatsItWorthToYou.com, appraisal cost $9.95 and gave the better, more detailed appraisal. The other is ValueMyStuff.com, appraisal cost $7.99. I felt both were worth the cost.

Bedroom suite
by: Doug

I inherited a bedroom suite from my Father who in turn inherited the same suite from his parents who where born in the early 1880's before Vancouver exsisted. A bed, chest of drawers and a vanity with tilt mirror and an matching bench all from Gregory Furniture in excellent shape. It also came with a wall mirror with three sections of beveled glass. The mirror came from Camera Arts at 610 Granville Street, Vancouver BC. From what I can find out that store was only there from 1890 to 1900. It's all been in the spare room for years and we were going to get rid of it until I checked it out on this site. Would anyone have a guess at what it's worth?

cedar chest
by: Anonymous

I have a cedar chest with a sticker inside from Gregory Furniture mfg. co. of Tacoma WA. I have had it for about 45 yrs. It was a gift from a step-grandmother. I'm wondering about the age and value of a piece like this. It has some water damage on the top...not to severe and one leg was broke off, but I have it. Don't plan to sell it as I consider it a family heirloom and will pass it on to a nephew when he's older.

Walnut table
by: Anonymous

I just purchased a walnut table with nobby legs and 2 leafs. It has been used well, and I would like to do some refinishing. It has an original piece of paper stapled underneath with the name Gregory Furniture Manufacturing Co, Tacoma, Wa.
The man whom we purchased this from advised his uncle had purchased it brand new pre-World War 2 from the Furniture store. Thank you for the information from the Tacoma Library.
Now I'm wondering if I should refinish it myself or have someone else do it?

Butler Furniture Co. Chairs
by: Caroline

Hi, In 1969 we purchased an old dairy farm in Coos Bay, OR and the house was built in 1905. In the house was left 6 Butler Furniture Co., Tacoma, WA dining room chairs along with a dining table from M.Friedmann Furniture of San Francisco. The chairs are all peg-constructed, and I have used them to this day, only checking out their origin as I have to use some wood glue to stabilize the joints. They will be part of my inheritaance to my kids!

Gregory Butler Furniture Mfg Co, Tacoma, WA
by: Coastie Joe

My wife & I recently accquired a drop-leaf dining room table from a yard sale for $20. After I got it home I noticed a "Gregory Butler Furn. Mfg" stamp on the underside. We are currently stripping the old finish off so we can clean it up a bit. It is a VERY soft wood but will look wonderful with a new mahogany stain (the old finsih was "1013 mahogany". This post is for anyone that has furniture with "butler" or "gregory butler" stamp, your furniture is at least vintage 1945 because in '46 there was a fire & after the fire, the company was bough out & renamed "F.S. Harmond Manuf. Co.". Igot thjis info from the Tacoma Library's website (i think someone else commented on it. I still can't believe we got such and old piece for a steal!

Harmon Bedroom Set
by: Anonymous

I also inherited my Aunt's bedroom set - she bought it in the 40's. Its a 4-poster bed with vanity and mirror that swings back and forth. Vanity has a wooden stool top covered with floral fabric. There are also two night stands and a tall chester drawer. In one of the drawers on the vanity is has the name place of F.S. Harmon Manufactoring. If anyone has information about how we would go about seeing how much this is worth. Thank you

More info...
by: Anonymous

I've inherited my parents' heavy dining room set, with "Gregory Furniture" stickers on the bottoms of the chairs. Today I've been in touch with the Tacoma Library and the Washington Historical Society. They agree that our labels prove that the furniture was made between 1916 and 1940. In 1940, they became Gregory and Butler until 1945, then became FS Harmon from 1947, into the 50's. Interestingly, their building on 2926 S. Steele (corner is Center)was built in 1907 for a coffin maker. I'm hoping to take some Polaroids of the pieces and then start matching them to Historical Society magazines or furniture stuff on line. If you have found anything out further, please let me know. Additionally, I was once told that the wooded pegs used to connect pieces together will also help me limit the dates of production for the table.

Thanks,
