Merrimac Cabinet Shop, Lowell, Mass.

by Jason
(Idaho)

I am sure it would be but I just wanted to check. I just bought a dresser made by the Merrimac Cabinet Shop, (Lowell, Mass.) that needs to be refinished. There doesn't to be any info about them on the internet. Does anyone know who they are?

Thanks,
Jason

My Info About
by: Dita

Hi,

I know that the furniture was originally sold at Jordans Furniture in Waltham, Ma. I have my parents bedroom set from 1950. It is solid rock maple, blond wood. It needs to be refinished, but the quality is there.

I too, would be interested in any info about the original company.

Restored Old desk from the Merrimac Cabinet shop
by: Anonymous

I have a old wooden desk from the Merrimac Cabinet Shop(Lowell, MA) and the stamp is on the underside of the top middle drawer. My father refinished it for me about 20 years ago. It really needed to be redone. It is a well made sturdy desk that is made of all wood. No modern pre-fab garbage. I'm looking for a little info and history on the company and possibly trying to find out how old my desk is.

I also have a piece from this company, a bureau. It is very well made, I just bought it from an estate store, James Keefe Antiques on Lakeview in Dracut. I am using it as a kitchen island and it is working out well!

I have a bed frame, a headboard, a dresser with mirror, and a high boy dresser. The head board and the mirror have a carved ship. This bedroom set was my parents and was bought around 1932. It came from the Merrimack Cabinet Shop, It has the original finish but I am thinking of having it redone.

Merrimac Cabinet Shop
by: Missoula, MT

I found a chest of drawers from this company at a second-hand store. I think it is solid maple and it has brass drawer pulls. There is a brass tag that says Merrimac Cabinet Shop Lowell, MA, and two pilgrim-type faces on it-a man and woman, in the upper left drawer. It would be nice to learn more about this company.

Merrimac Cabinet Shop, Lowell Mass - Response
by: Anonymous

I have a dresser from the same cabinet maker. All I could find was a reference to a cabinet maker in Lowell mass, from the 1930's Census. George Putnam. But it did not reference the shop or his ownership of a shop so probably not related.
