Old Chair

I got this chair from my parents a few years ago. Apparently, they found it in a house they purchased 20 years ago from an old couple. The chair then was shiny black.

Over the years my parents painted it multiple times.

I have a tendency to get attached to inanimate objects, so I took the chair with me when I moved. Recently, I used paint stripper and it took all of the paint off and most of the black. I was slowly getting the black off with scrubbing the wood with a kitchen scrubbing-sponge thing and water. That was too slow so I switched to ultra-fine sand paper.

I realized that the seat was not original and it appeared to have been some sort of woven material that was wedged into a groove. I also noticed some dates stamped in the bottom.

Can anyone identify this chair?

I think its probably a cheap old pine chair that has magically survived through the years, but I'm not good with furniture.
