Ornately carved, curved seat, oak chair

My father passed away recently and this chair was left in the old victorian house he bought back in 1960. I have looked online a lot and have never been able to find anything that looked even remotely like this chair.

I'd just really like to know anything about the history of this chair and perhaps it's value.

The one arm is broken but all there and I'm wondering if I should have it repaired.
Any information anyone can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.
