Strange chair need help!?

Hello,

I picked up this chair at a 2nd hand store in my area. I have been looking at it for awhile and they had 25% off day today so I had to get it. I purchased it for $75.

It is pretty strange looking and I cant find any type of markings on it except on the bottom of the seat it says mexico. Probably not a good sign, but it also looks like that may have been written on later. it is put together with nails and appears that it may have been re-stained possibly.

It stands abuot 4 feet tall, has some type of rivets I believe that hold the padding on. The wood appears old showing many cracks.

Any help would be great, even if it is not old it is a odd looking piece and a conversation piece.
