Two antique chairs from a dump

Found these 2 chairs that were on their way to the local dump. They just look very interesting. Seem to be covered or painted in a lacquer dark browny black perhaps. The wood is very heavy.
Can anyone please shed some light on them as to their origin and age. I am from Australia.

Also wanted to mention that the legs are fluted, front and back, and also that the material has a raised finish, perhaps this is not original.
The seat sits on 4 corner triangles and have the old style slotted screw heads on them.
