Very Unusual Antique Unique Rare Odd Wooden Carved Chair

by Jen
(Los Angeles, CA)

Someone please tell me anything about this very unique but extremely rare looking old wooden chair I've got from Rose Bowl Antique Swap Mart long time ago.

I don't know anything about furniture or history and I can't figure out why this old chair has such an elaborate and odd shape with this round cup holder looking thing that sticks to the back and carved with two birds on top of the back rest and a cross(?).

The seat is I believe leather and everything else is made with wood. It's only about 28 1/2" tall.

Who can I ask about these kind of questions? I would appreciate if you can help me.

If you would like to take a look at this chair's picture, I've also posted on Los Angeles Craigslist, and you can see it on it until April 25th.

I inherited a chair from my grandparents. It has a mans head carved at the top, with womens head carved at the end of both arms (one with eyes closed, one open). The back and seat are both upholstered, and it has a matching footstool.

I have no idea what the background is,other than my family having it for years. I also cant find any kind of signature on it. Can anyone help me?

An unusual carved antique chair - can anyone identify it?

the Monk's Chair

the Monk's Chair

The chair in the attached picture belonged to my grandfather who received it from his father. The story is that it was one of a set which belonged to a well-to-do New Yorker towards the end of the 1800's and that it was left unclaimed in a storage warehouse owned by my great grandfather. I have never seen another chair anything like it and have been unable to turn up any information in the usual research sources.

Can anyone provide any info on this chair or any similar chairs?

Chairs with carved dog heads

by Sheila
(Florida)

I have an old chair with wooden carved dog heads at the end of the armrests. I believe they are Setters and it belonged to my Grandfather. It has a matching foot stool. Has been recovered once but need to be cleaned.
I believe it is from the 1930's. I have never seen anything like it.
Can anyone tell me who might have made it and the value?
Thank You.
