Drawer joint

Drawer joint

I bought an antique dresser, its a 3 drawer, (I was also told it might be an English sideboard. I really don't know for sure tho) at an auction sale. It has a joint on all the drawers that I have never seen before. Its a series of 1/2 inch circles on the side part with a little hole in the center. On the front part it looks like half circles with a small post in the center to adjoin to the sideboard.
I have searched the net and cant find a name or idea of what or where this joint comes from
hopefully someone has seen or heard of a similar joint.

Also have this dresser joint

I also have a dresser with the same drawer joints. I was told that this joining method is called mortise and tenon and was used between the years of 1860 to 1870 and was discontinued because it was much easier to use the dovetail method. Is this true and does this method truly date the piece to this period and thus make the piece more valuable.
