unknown sideboard

Does anyone know what period this might be from or what wood it is, or how much it might be worth? I was given it on buying my first house by a kindly friend of a friend as I was virtually furniture-less. That was 15 years ago and I may have to part with it soon to make way for more efficient storage for my 5 kids' toys!
