unknown antique chairs

We have two chairs that were purchased from an antique dealer around 40 years ago, as is, in hopes of restoring them to original condition. Now with being retired, I have time to start finishing projects that I started long ago. So with that in mind I am sending this out in hopes that someone will help me identify the maker and age of the chairs or any helpful info. The chairs are made of chestnut or oak and have ornate type carvings of two birds, chestnut leaves with nuts and a possible makers mark in the center below the carved medalion looks to resemble the head of a wood screw. The chairs were assembled with pegs.
