Unkown Desk Please help..

I recieved this Desk as a gift from a friend who bought this desk at a auction (auction price 6000$).

He told me that the auctioneer told him that it has a secret compartment, so thus making me think its old.

So if you could please tell me what type of desk it is it would be greatly apreciated.
