wanted to find a style name

I am 25 years old and beginning to "properly" furnish my home. When i was younger, I remember my grandma having furniture that looked like it dated somewhere from the 40's-60's (broad, I know). On the drawers, you could see varying wood grains on the dresser. One panel would appear to almost be marbelized, while another would be a horizontal wood grain, another would be a diagonal wood grain. The wood was a very high gloss. It was almost a patchwork dresser, of sorts. But the contrasting wood grains were so beautiful, each one complementing the next and making them stand out all the more. I'd like to find such a furniture set, but I'm not sure of a specific style name or period in which to start my search. If anyone could help me, I'd be so grateful! Making my home remind me of one of my favorite places in my life (grandma's house) would just be a dream!
